[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Organizing Director for Top-Tier Challenger Race in Virginia

Top-tier challenger race in Virginia DCCC Battlefield District seeks an experienced and savvy Organizing Director to design, implement and lead our volunteer recruitment and voter contact programs. The OD will be committed to the power of grassroots organizing and open to challenging the norms of what traditional field programs should look like.


This position is an excellent opportunity to spend 2020 working in one of the most competitive challenger districts in the country.


Resumes will be accepted on a rolling basis. Start date of January 1st is preferred.


Core responsibilities include:


-Designing our overall primary field strategy, starting with a ballot access plan

-Establishing daily, weekly, and monthly goals for volunteer recruitment and voter contact benchmarks

-Supporting our Campaign Manager in identifying and hiring staff for our field program

-Helping our field organizers and volunteer leaders be accountable to our metrics and goals

-Developing and implementing field trainings for staff and volunteers

-Engineering our distributed organizing program, including:

  • Matching volunteers' skill sets with campaign needs

  • Writing content and call to action plans

  • Circulating campaign updates and rapid response talking points 

  • Managing remote volunteer leaders and teams making phone calls and knocking doors

-Coordinating with our Political Director to plan and execute grassroots and large-scale field events

-Looking for opportunities to participate in cross-department collaboration with our fundraising and political shops

-Cultivating and maintaining relationships with activists around the district 

 

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:


-At least 2+ cycles of organizing experience

-A hands-on approach to their organizing program. From putting together walk-packets to 

developing high-impact and innovative community outreach strategies, the OD should have a 

"no job is too small" mentality

-Be an expert in the latest field-related technologies and techniques

-Ability to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines while also fostering a cooperative, 

team-oriented work environment 

-Care deeply about delivering high-quality work products with a problem-solver mentality

-Want to make big contributions to a high-performing team

-Be comfortable working campaign hours

-Willingness to travel around the district as needed 

-Extensive knowledge of VAN/VoteBuilder as well as Google Sheets/Excel

-Valid Driver's License and/or access to reliable transportation
