Arise Chicago, a leading workers' rights organization, seeks a Development Associate to develop, coordinate, and lead organizational fundraising efforts.
Arise Chicago builds partnerships between faith communities and workers to fight workplace injustice through education, organizing, and public policy changes. Arise organizes low-wage, primarily immigrant workers to take power in their workplaces and organizes workers and their allies to win policies that benefit the working class.
Position Description
Full time development position to lead and grow fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities:
80% of responsibilities will focus on grant/fund development and management, including:
Coordinate organization's comprehensive fundraising plan
Lead writing and submission of all application-based fundraising efforts
Maintain organizational grants calendar and track all funder information in database
Coordinate foundation site visits, including the preparation of worker-members' participation
Deepen current and develop new funder relationships
Facilitate quarterly meeting with directors to carry out fundraising plan
Direct individual giving program, including annual appeal
Assist Communications Director to create annual report of accomplishments to share with funders
Assist Executive Director in coordinating annual fundraising event that draws 500+ supporters
Coordinate with directors the organization's financial planning and budgeting
Help prepare materials for quarterly board meetings
Review financial activity, including cash flow and annual audit with Accounts Manager
20% of responsibilities include:
Support organizational work and mission at press conferences, worker actions, etc.
Other administrative tasks to support the organization's mission, as needed
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Outstanding writing skills, with ability to write in an engaging manner; ability to summarize complex concepts in compelling, accessible language
Excellent verbal communication skills, with ability to concisely summarize key concepts
Bachelor's Degree
Demonstrated ability to set and achieve multiple goals under deadlines
Keen attention to detail
Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment
Ability to plan ahead and assist organization in projecting funding cycle activity
Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, and basic social media
Demonstrated commitment to social justice values including race, gender, and economic justice
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience at nonprofit organizations
Experience with and/or demonstrated understanding of community organizing
Experience with fundraising or philanthropy, with ability to research and attract new funders
Master's degree with advanced writing requirements
Published writing
Familiarity with local philanthropy institutions
Experience in planning annual in-person fundraising event
Experience in producing videos for fundraising
Experience interacting with immigrant communities, faith communities, and labor unions
Experience with databases (NationBuilder, Raiser's Edge, Salsa etc)
Bilingual verbal and written fluency in English and Spanish
